The BIMSearch interface consists of four sections: the viewer, the search window, the selection sets window, and the report.
The BIMSearch viewer has all of the popular Autodesk BIM 360 viewer functionality.
The viewer tools are, from left to right: Show all objects; Orbit; Pan; Zoom; First person; Camera interactions; Measure; Section analysis; Document browser; Form clusters by category; Explode model; Model browser; Properties; Settings; Full screen.
For information on how each function works, please refer to this article.
The search window lets BIMSearch users extract data reports from the model. These data reports can be helpful with various daily engineering tasks such as calculating quantities, estimating, billing, ordering material and much more. The reports consist of the results of a search.
In order to search the model, you can use one of our pre-defined search templates, edit a template, or customize an entirely new search.
For more information on the search window, see the post “Search your model”
The selection sets window allows you to create, edit and manage your saved selections – be they search results or manual selections.
For more information, see the post “The selection set window”.
The BIMSearch report is the result of the search. It will appear in the bottom half of the browser automatically once you load a search template, or when you click “create report” after selecting your own search settings.
For more information about the report, see the post “Understanding the report”
Each display window can be minimized or expanded
Manual mode enables you to search the model by clicking on elements in the viewer. If you are in manual mode, no report will be generated, but an instant widget will appear in the top left corner of the viewer that keeps track of the selection.
For more information, see the post “Manual selection”
For more information about your manual selection, click on “selection details” in the instant widget.
For more information, see the post “Manual selection”
Double-clicking on an element will select and highlight all the elements with the same type name, and the instant widget will appear with the relevant information.
For more information, see the post “Double click”.
If you have made a selection in manual mode, you can save that selection as a set, or add it to an existing set. To do this, simply make your selection, right click, and select “save as selection set” or “copy to new selection set”.
